The Gazette: ICE releases raid costs to Rep. Bruce Braley

A formal request made by a congressman is apparently the only way Immigration and Customs Enforcement would release a breakdown of expenses it incurred during the Postville immigration raid, wrote Trish Mehaffey of the The Gazette in Iowa.
The Gazette obtained records of financial expenses through Freedom of Information requests, but ICE only sent a brief one-page summary with the total and no breakdown. The article ran Wednesday with the expenses reported as $5,211,092 as of Aug. 21.

Largest workplace raid… again

Laurel, Miss. replaces Postville, Iowa, as the biggest workplace immigration raid in U.S. history, with nearly 600 people arrested. Of those, about 100 were given tracking bracelets. Nearly 475 detainees are said to have been transferred to an ICE detention facility in Jena, Louisiana. The raid occurred at Howard Industries, the largest employer in Jones County. According to an ICE spokesperson, the raid was the result of a three-year investigation upon being tipped off by a union member.
