A formal request made by a congressman is apparently the only way Immigration and Customs Enforcement would release a breakdown of expenses it incurred during the Postville immigration raid, wrote Trish Mehaffey of the The Gazette in Iowa.
The Gazette obtained records of financial expenses through Freedom of Information requests, but ICE only sent a brief one-page summary with the total and no breakdown. The article ran Wednesday with the expenses reported as $5,211,092 as of Aug. 21.
